Race vs. Sects

For hundreds of years, the West have been suffering from the extreme racial discrimination. Black vs White. Red vs. White. Yellow vs. White. Yellow vs. Black. However you put them, they deep inside have this sense of discrimination where every race sticks and speaks for its people and by that I mean the same race. Any kind of discrimination is considered jealousy and self unsatisfaction.

The major racial problem in the West is between the Black people and the White people, regardless of religion or nationality. We see this problem in movies, in documentaries and even in the news. Its a big problem.

Middle Easterns can't understand how the Westerns are living together when they have this huge racial issue going on. I talked to many people in the Middle East about what they think of this particular problem in the West, most of them agreed that it's something very bad and unnecessary, and few of them were very much into discriminating races themselves, which in my opinion it's a "cool" thing to do in the Middle East, being a racist is like being a Western.

When the people in the Middle East are laughing on the Westerns, they seem to forget that they have a bigger and much more dangerous discrimination issues, I wish I can say religious, but it unfortunately extends to sectarian discrimination. They mock the West when they themselves suffer from the worst.

I understand and know for a fact that the variety of religions in the West is much more than in the Middle East, yet, the only problem they have is regarding the color of the skin. In the Middle East, it's not about the color as much as it's about religious sects and nationalities.

In Lebanon, the biggest example in the third smallest country. Every sect, from the 18 existent, and the 6 ruling, have their own parts of the land, their own people, their own names. A Syrian is considered a curse for some sects, an American is considered betrayal in other sects. It's very complicated for 3 million people living in such a small country, even the constitution is sectarian based.

In Saudi Arabia, Sunnis only! Christian and Shiite are enemies. In Iran, Shiites only. In Iraq, Sunni vs. Shiite. In Egypt, Muslim vs. Christians. In Syria, Christians have their own cities and neighbourhoods away from Muslims. Very few families accept different sectarian or religious marriages. Just so I don't forget, also the Jews have major problems with Islam in Palestine/Israel.

So if we stop looking at other people's problems and focus on our major problems, we will start a whole new era filled with peace and harmony. But come on who am I kidding? This is impossible right? I am totally against discrimination of any kind, after all we're all human who differ not more than 0.3% in DNA composition.

I am proud of the Lebanese, few of them of course, how they started this Stop Sectarianism Campaign. The website is worth the look. Also we can't forget how the Human Rights are trying their best by launching the most incredible campaigns. Hopefully, there will come one day where the entire world will absolutely problem free for 24 hours. That's all I am hoping for.
